10 Harry Potter quotes that perfectly sum up a typical Monday

It’s Monday (surprise!), and while this may seem to be yet another unremarkable start to your week, Potter fans around the globe know otherwise. Today isn’t just another boring Monday – It’s Monday the 31st July!

To all the Muggles out there who aren’t in the know, today is Harry Potter’s birthday, which he also shares with his creator J. K. Rowling. So happy birthday to Harry and his mother!

To celebrate (whilst also acknowledging that for most of us, this will probably turn out to be a magic-less Monday – at least until we can get home and reread the HP books), I have compiled 10 quotes from the Harry Potter books that perfectly sum up a typical Monday – at least for some of us. Happy Birthday! 5 famous authors who were born in July

Happy Birthday! 5 famous authors who were born in July

My ideal summer day was reading on the porch.” – Harold E. Varmus

I couldn’t agree more, Harold! And thanks to some pretty awesome authors, who were born in the month of July, we all have some great books to (re-)read this summer!

July is packed with amazing authors, who were born during this fine summer month. A quick Google search brings up over a 100 famous authors, but even though all of them have left behind a literary legacy worth remembering, I’ve chosen to highlight just five authors – the list would simply have been too long if I had to list everyone.

This little list includes authors of children’s books, fantasy, gothic fiction and Nobel Prize winning novels, so there’s a bit of everything in this post. You’ll probably also have heard about all of these authors, but how much do you know about them? Do you know when their birthday is? Continue reading

Happy Birthday! 5 famous authors who were born in June

I love birthdays – and not just my own. I love celebrating other people, who have experienced yet another year of living life.

Life is such a wonder, and I think birthdays are a great way to keep reminding us of just that. Even when I don’t know someone personally – and never will – I like to take a moment on their birthday to feel grateful for how they’ve enriched my life in big or small ways.

Which leads me to the topic of today’s blog post. As readers, we get to experience the most intimate part of an author’s being – their mind. Authors let us see what they think and feel, they pour their heart and soul into Continue reading

Recent(-ish) Nobel Prize Winning Poets who will rock your world

“I never was any good at poetry
I never could write it fluently
Waiting for inspiration to hit
whilst eating a banana split
I’m probably better of quitting
Maybe I should take up knitting?”

Okay, so I think we’ve established that I’m pretty horrific a writing poetry. That’s okay, writing kick-ass urban fantasy is more my thing anyway. Luckily for all of us, the world has seen (way) better poets. Continue reading

5 fairy tales about fabulous footwear that may or may not try to kill you

5 fairy tales about fabulous footwear that may or may not try to kill you

Some love them, some don’t hate them, but we all need them. Whether you are a fan of high heels or prefer comfy slippers, shoes are something we all use in our daily lives.

They protect our feet when we need to get from A to B, and they can help us make a (fashion) statement. However, shoes can also get you maimed, married or make you miserable! Just throw in a dash of magic and anything is suddenly possible with a pair of shoes.

Below, I’ve compiled a little list with five of the best (in my opinion – feel free to disagree) fairy tales about shoes. Some are fun little tales with happy endings, others not so much, so there should be something for every kind of fairy tale loving bookworm! Continue reading

The little literature spring quiz – for all us young-at-heart bookworms!

The classical children’s literature spring quiz – for all us young at heart bookworms

Spring is upon us – or so I’ve been told. Looking out the window, I find it difficult to believe that winter is indeed waning. Sure, there are some signs that the dark time is past us – snowdrops have broken through the hard ground and daffodils are adding their bright yellow glow to the drab surroundings – but it’s still pretty cold and a bit gloomy here in Scandinavia.

Luckily, it all gets better from now on! And what better way to celebrate the slow but steady progress towards summer than with a bookish quiz about spring?! I’ve chosen to base this little quiz on famous children’s books because children are in their life’s spring – a time which the rest of us look back on with (hopefully) fond memories!

So let’s take a walk down memory lane and see just how much we can remember from a time when the world was still new and filled with endless wonder. Continue reading
